Jesus Said, "I AM"
Written and given by Debbie Pinkston
July 14, 2008

Tonight we are going to talk about some of the times Jesus said, "I am".
We are going to start with:

1. Jesus said, "I am the Bread of life."

John 6:35-40

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Without bread or some kind of food we would just wither away and die physically.

It is the same with our spiritual lives, without the Bread (Jesus) we would wither and die. Jesus is the Source of our life. All our life comes form Him. Life would not be worth living without Him.

2. Jesus said, "I am the Light of the world."

John 8:12

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus said, "I am come a Light unto the world."

John 12: 44-50

44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Those who have Jesus like we do no longer walk in darkness. Jesus is the Light that chases away the darkness of this world.

As long as we follow the Light we have in Jesus we will not stumble on things we don't or can't see because the Light of Jesus will never let us down. But without Jesus we would be in total darkness and we would stumble all the time because satan loves to trip us up as God's people.

3. Jesus said, "I am the Door."

John 10:1-10

1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unt'to them.

7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

There is only one Door through which we can have access to God the Father. That Door is Jesus. Jesus is the ONLY Door by which we have access to God the Father. No one goes through that door except by the Name of Jesus.

God doesn't play "Let's Make A Deal" where you have a choice of door #1 or door #2 or door #3. There is no other way to enter into the family or presence of God than through Jesus.

4. Jesus said, "I am the Good Shepherd."

John 10:11-15, 27-29

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

What does a shepherd do? He takes care of  his sheep. We are sheep and we belong to Jesus. He is our Good Shepherd. He takes care of us, watches over us, guides us, protects us, and loves us. What more could we ask for in a Shepherd?

Jesus said, "I am the Good Shepherd" there is no better Shepherd than Jesus! He keeps us from being deceived by "wolves in sheep's clothing."

5. Jesus said, "I am the Resurrection and the Life."

John 11:23-27

23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

To take this to the spiritual sense of "resurrection and life" we can look at this as Jesus pulling us up out of a deep dark grave called sin. We were once dead in our sins, then Jesus came along just in time and gave us a new life in Him!

Our souls will live forever with Jesus in Heaven where there will be no more pain, sickness, death, or any other thing that does not come from God.

6. Jesus said, "I am the Way, The Truth, and the Life

John 14:1-6

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus is the Way-Maker! Jesus said He is the Way! When there seems like there is NO WAY....remember Jesus said, "I AM THE WAY!"

Jesus is the Truth...and the Truth shall set us free! We are free from guilt, free from the grip of sin, free form all other things that God has set us free from....we have all been set free!

Jesus is the Life! The life Jesus gives us is abundant life...life more full and free than we can ever imagine.

7. Jesus said, "I am the True Vine."

John 15:1-12

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Jesus is the Vine that connects us to the Father. As long as we stay connected to Jesus we have everything we need to live the life He wants us to live. If we sever that connection with Jesus we are going to really be in bad shape.

Jesus said, "I AM" not "I might be" or "I should be" or "Maybe I am". Jesus said "I AM" ! Jesus was, is , and always will be all that we need! HE IS THE GREAT "I AM!"
